Inside, the temperature is a chilling -10 degrees Celsius, offering visitors a one-of-a-kind and frosty experience. Imagine walking into a venue where the walls, furniture, and even the artwork are all made of ice. It feels like stepping into a frozen wonderland right in the heart of Amsterdam. When you walk into the Amsterdam Icebar, you'll discover two bars. The first is a 'warm' tavern, and the second is the actual ice bar, which is located further inside the building. As a guest, you get three tokens – two silver and one gold.
The gold token can be used at the warm tavern, while the silver tokens are for the ice bar. The warm tavern is the ideal starting point for your icy adventure. Here, you can use your tokens to grab a range of drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. Whether you're in the mood for a beer, wine, cocktail, shot, soft drink, or something warm like tea or coffee, the warm tavern has you covered. While you enjoy your drink, you'll learn about Willem Barentsz, a 16th-century Dutch Arctic explorer, and his thrilling quest to discover the Northeast Passage to the Indies. After soaking in the warm tavern experience, it's time to prepare for the icy segment of your adventure. On your way to the ice bar, you can pick up some warm clothing to get ready for your journey to the North Pole. Once you enter the ice bar, you'll be immersed in a magical ice world.
The entire bar is designed to resemble the island of Nova Zembla, where Barentsz and his crew were stranded for nearly a year. It's a frozen tribute to their Arctic expedition. In the ice bar, you can use your two silver tokens to order drinks like beers, shots, or even orange juice – all served in glasses made entirely of ice! It's a truly unique experience to sip your favorite drinks from glasses that won't hold their liquid form for long in the icy environment.
