This full-day tour provides an opportunity to step away from the waterfalls and explore the cultural and historical Jesuit center located in San Ignacio. Situated approximately 270 kilometers from Iguazú, this site has been recognized as a UNESCO Cultural Heritage site. The ruins present there will enhance your understanding and appreciation of the remarkable contributions made by the Jesuits. Known as the Reduction of San Ignacio, these ruins were established by Jesuits and constructed by the Guaraní people nearly 400 years ago. The facade of the temple, crafted from pink sandstone in 1610, underwent reconstruction in the 20th century. For almost two centuries, these ruins remained concealed beneath the jungle.
Each year, numerous tourists flock to this site. It is located in the heart of San Ignacio, 60 kilometers from Posadas along Route 12. The region's tropical climate can lead to the monument being covered with microorganisms that contribute to its deterioration; however, with donations, efforts can be made to maintain its condition.Following our exploration of the San Ignacio Ruins, we will proceed to the Wanda Mines near the Paraná River. You will encounter the entrance sign and artisans offering stones for sale. These mines are distinctive as they are situated outdoors.
